HIV in Europe: new ECDC article published

HIV in Europe: ECDC article shows 15% of all people living with HIV in Europe are unaware that they are HIV-positive. Moreover, using European surveillance data and the ECDC modelling tool developed in collaboration with SHM analyst, Ard van Sighem, the study revealed that since 2011, the number of new HIV diagnoses has remained unchanged, with between 29,000 and 33,000 newly reported cases each year. The authors call for better national and key population-specific estimates and improved offer and uptake of HIV testing among those at risk to ensure targets to reduce HIV incidence and the number of undiagnosed individuals in Europe are met.
