Thanks to effective treatments, people with HIV are living much longer. However, they do have an increased risk of certain age-related diseases, including cardiovascular diseases and some types of cancer. Additionally, in the Netherlands, more than half of current HIV diagnoses are only discovered at a late stage (advanced HIV infection or AIDS). To determine why this is the case, it is necessary to examine the HIV population in more detail.
For its research, SHM uses other standardized data sources. The data from these sources are always pseudonymized and cannot be traced back to individual persons by SHM. Below is a description of these data and how SHM utilizes the information.
- Statistics Netherlands (CBS)
- Pathological-Anatomical National Automated Archive (PALGA)
- Netherlands comprehensive cancer organisation (IKNL)
-
Foundation for Pharmaceutical Statistics (SFK)
