Sonia Boender
Bio
Sonia Boender is an enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher in the field of HIV, specialised in the epidemiological analysis of large observational cohorts studies. She is involved in several multi-country HIV cohort studies and collaborations, in both resource-rich and resource-limited settings.
Her research addresses clinical, public health and policy-related questions. Key themes include the response to antiretroviral treatment of HIV, treatment monitoring and switch strategies, drug resistance, and quality of care.
Sonia completed her master’s in Health Science with a specialisation in Public Health and Infectious Diseases at the VU University Amsterdam in 2011, and subsequent postgraduate certificate (with distinction) in International Public Health at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, UK, in 2012. Subsequently, she worked as a junior lecturer in infectious diseases, epidemiology and applied biostatistics at the Department of Health Sciences at the VU University of Amsterdam. From 2013-2016, she conducted her PhD research at the Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development and the Global Child Health Group of the Academic Medical Centre/Emma Kinderziekenhuis of the University of Amsterdam. Sonia joined Stichting HIV Monitoring as a postdoctoral researcher in 2016.
