February 8th, 2021

As of April 1st 2021, professor Peter Reiss will step down as director of the HIV Monitoring Foundation (SHM) in the Netherlands.

“The immediate reason for my departure is the fact that I have reached my mandatory retirement age. More importantly though, after having fulfilled this position for eight years with great pleasure, I really feel the time is right to handover to a new generation, ” says Peter Reiss.

From April 1st onwards the daily leadership of SHM will be transferred to Dr Marc van der Valk, current SHM Board chair, together with Drs Sima Zaheri, current deputy director of SHM. Marc van der Valk holds the position of internal medicine/infectious disease consultant and head of the HIV outpatient clinic at the Amsterdam UMC, location AMC, and at DC Clinics Lairesse (Amsterdam) and will continue part of his clinical responsibilities after April 1st.

In addition, the current Board of the Foundation has decided to change the legal governance of SHM – from one with a Board and Director - to that with a Board and Supervisory Board; per April 1st Marc van der Valk and Sima Zaheri will jointly constitute the Board of SHM in the positions of chairman and secretary / treasurer, respectively.

With the exception of Marc van der Valk, all members of the current Board will continue as members of the new Supervisory Board; new members who will join the Supervisory Board are: Dr J. Gisolf on behalf of the NVHB, as chairman, and Drs Carolijn Ploem, member of the Board of Directors of the Radboudumc, as Supervisory Board member on behalf of the Dutch Federation of University Medical Centers.
