BEEHIVE collaboration: how viral genetic variation affects HIV-1 virulence

20 June 2017

The BEEHIVE collaboration finds that the genetic make-up of the HIV-1 virus is responsible for a significant proportion (30%) of variation in the HIV-1 set-point viral load, a strong predictor of disease outcome. The study, published last week in PLOS Biology, examined the full genome HIV sequences from over 2000 HIV-positive seroconverters, including those from SHM’s ATHENA cohort.
