Obtaining data for research

To request statistical information from the SHM database or data for own research please use the Request for data form. A brief overview of the procedure relating to obtaining data for research is located on the Research proposal page.

Conducting own research

If you are planning to conduct research by using SHM data, we expect you to file a progress report once a year as part of SHM’s annual report. If your research application is accepted, then your research will be added to the Research in progress page. When the research leads to publication or is stalled, SHM should be informed. Completed projects will be added to the Completed research page with a listing of papers related to that research project. Papers will also be listed on the Publications page of the website.

Planning to submit a paper?

If you are planning to submit a paper, please consult the rules for acknowledging SHM and the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport and for a copy of the standard ATHENA acknowledgement text.

Any questions?

For more information, please contact the data collector or data monitor at your HIV treatment centre or contact SHM.

Stichting HIV Monitoring

Stichting HIV Monitoring (SHM) makes an essential contribution to healthcare for HIV-positive people in the Netherlands.  Working with all recognised HIV treatment centres in the Netherlands, SHM systematically collects coded medical data from all registered HIV patients. SHM uses these data to produce centre-specific reports that allow HIV treatment centres to optimise their patient care and obtain formal certification. SHM’s data also form the basis for the yearly HIV monitoring report and are used in HIV-related research in the Netherlands and internationally. The outcome of SHM’s research provides tangible input into HIV care and prevention polices in the Netherlands.
