HIV/AIDS epidemic update
HIV/AIDS epidemic update
AIDS was first recognised in the USA in the early 1980’s. In 1984 scientists identified HIV as the cause of AIDS. Since then, the global HIV/AIDS epidemic has become one of the greatest threats to human health. Although progress has been made in treating and preventing HIV infection, there are still an estimated 23,000 people in the Netherlands and over 33 million people worldwide living with HIV.
