Gaining insight into HIV

More and more we are gaining insight into HIV and HIV treatment. This helps to improve diagnostic skills and treat patients better. So, collecting anonymous patient data is key – similar to collecting blood and storing blood plasma for scientific research. In this way, SHM makes an important contribution to improving the quality of HIV care in the Netherlands. SHM advises patients, doctors, the government and the healthcare sector, and every year on World AIDS Day (December 1st) SHM publishes a monitoring report on HIV in the Netherlands.

Stichting HIV Monitoring

SHM, the Dutch HIV monitoring foundation, makes an important and necessary contribution to healthcare for HIV-infected people living in the Netherlands. Through the collection and maintenance of anonymous data from HIV-patients throughout the country, our work contributes significantly to the knowledge of HIV and enables treating physicians to assess and improve patient care. Our yearly monitoring report provides valuable input for the development of HIV care and prevention policies within the Netherlands and the EU.
